Our History |
The FVHS chapter of FBLA was started in the fall of 2009 with six members. SInce then our chapter has grown to fifty members as of June 2015. We have partnered with various non-profits to work on several community service projects. Our current primary community service partners are RUFF (Rescue Ur Forever Friend) and MMIA (Military Missions in Action).
Our members participated in the FBLA competitive events the regional, state and national levels. Our chapter has qualified members to compete at the National Competition for the past two years. There are over 80 different events to choose from to test your business skills and talents against students from all over North Carolina and the USA. Last year in 2014 six competed at the national competition and conference in Nashville, TN. Members earned top ten finishes in two events. Microsoft Office Specialist and Spreadsheet Applications. This year in 2015 eight members qualified to go to nationals in Chicago, IL. Our chapter was awarded two top ten trophies in Business Math and Partnership with Business. Next year the national conference will be in Atlanta, GA. We have established a relationship with local businesses through participation with the F-V Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of F-V and the F-V Business Alliance. Local business people have conducted workshops to build business skills and explore career choices. Our chapter is working with these groups to help promote local businesses, our community and school through a variety of joint projects and initiatives. Several business and civic groups have created student internships for our members. Currently there are nine internship positions from five different business and groups available to our members. Our chapter is actively seeking out more internship sites for our members. Scholarship and leadership training opportunities are also offered through FBLA. One of our projects with local businesses involved creating a F-V Community Calendar that promoted local businesses and town events. The proceeds went to fund a new FBLA scholarship for graduating seniors. We also have two additional scholarships created by the Rotary Club of F-V available to our members. In addition to these local scholarships FBLA offers additional scholarships through its Competitive Events program. |
