FV-FBLA Boosters, Inc. Scholarship
First organized in July of 2015, the FV-FBLA Boosters are dedicated to supporting the financial needs of the FBLA chapter of Fuquay-Varina High School.
One of the ways the boosters support the chapter is with creation of the FV-FBLA Boosters Scholarship. In May 2016, the boosters awarded the first every set of $1,000 scholarships to two FBLA seniors. The requirements for the scholarship are active membership and participation in the FVHS chapter of FBLA for several years. The first two recipients were Eleanor B. and Rebecca O. Eleanor is a freshman at Appalachian State University studying marine biology and Becca is at East Carolina University studying Fashion Merchandising.
The scholarship is funded in part by the annual Fuquay-Varina Community Calendar. The calendar is sold every December and January and the proceeds are dedicated to fund the FV-FBLA Booster scholarships. The calendar is also meant to celebrate and promote our community of Fuquay-Varina and the local businesses that add to the vibrant character of our town. The calendar also contains important dates for events and celebrations in Fuquay-Varina. The cost of the calendar remains at $10 and makes a wonderful holiday gift. The business ad section contains valuable coupons from our local business advertisers.
Rotary Club "Steve Estes Memorial" Scholarship
The creation of the Steve Estes Scholarship was created to honor Rotarian Steve Estes who passed away in early 2015. Steve was impressed by the character and abilities of the members of the FVHS chapter of FBLA. The Rotary Club of Fuquay-Varina chose to honor Steve's memory with the creation of the Steve Estes Memorial Scholarship awarded to two members of the local FBLA chapter each year. In spring of 2015 the first two recipients were Glaxia L. and Andrew Y. Glaxis is currently studying nursing at BYU-Idaho and Andrew is studying economics at ECU.
In May 2016 the Rotarians awarded its two scholarships to Anna T. and Olivia M. Anna is currently a freshman at UNC-CH and Olivia is studying Criminal Justice at App State. Last year the scholarships were in the amount of $400 each. This year the Bob Barker Company has pledged to match the funds raised by the Rotary Club for the scholarship, effectively doubling the award amount. Thank you to the Bob Barker Company for their continued support of our school and students.
Applicants of this scholarship must be active members of the FVHS chapter of FBLA. Priority will be given to members that have actively participated in numerous chapter events for several years. Such participation includes assuming chapter leadership roles, working on community service projects, attending leadership conferences and involvement in FBLA competitive events.
